A Lake Gone Rouge

Posted on August 26, 2012 by kejohns323 Posted in Uncategorized .

Planning a trip to France in the near future? Here are some of my sightseeing suggestions: tour Notre Dame, visit the Eiffel Tower, see the Mona Lisa, go to a town called Camarague. What’s in Camargue, you may ask? A lake gone rouge, that’s what; and by “rouge”, I mean the French word for red. This lake in Southern France, part of a delta region connecting the Rhône River to the sea, has recently turned a blood-red color due to the high-salt concentration in the area. If the mind-blowing change in color isn’t enough evidence for this fact, salt crystals are abundant on rocks, sticks, plants—every surface in and around this lake. Being a natural occurrence, and the only body of water in the region seemingly affected right now, there is no cause for alarm. Just wonder and amazement at this Mars-like scenery! If you’re not headed to Europe any time soon, you can just see more pictures and info here.
