Sorry this post is slightly late but I’ve had a busy week. I have a couple of awesome movies to talk about and 1 really good tv show…
1. How It Ends
Starring: Theo James, Kat Graham, Nancy Sorel, Nicole Ari Parker, Forest Whitaker, Anett Rumanoczky and many more…
So this is a great Netflix film based on a best selling book. It tells the story of a guy who has to try and return to his pregnant girlfriend after an apocalyptic event destroys part of America.
What makes this film awesome is the road trip section of it…. because of the apocalyptic event, all planes have been stopped and Theo’s character is forced to drive halfway across the states to get to her.
The film also features an outstanding performance from Forest Whitaker who plays Theo’s character’s father in law, a seasoned actor who is always brilliant.
It’s a speculative film, which ends somewhat abruptly in the middle of an oncoming natural threat, causing the audience to make up thier own minds as to what happens to the characters at the end of the film.
Starring: Melissa Ruxburgh, Josh Dallas, Athena Karkanis, J.R. Ramirez, Luna Blaise, Jack Messina and many more…
This is a tv show that was recommended to me by a friend who said it was really good… and she wasn’t joking.
Manifest tells the story of a flight returning from Jamaica to New York. Whilst in the air, the plane experiences a bit of turbulence and then all the electricity switches off for a few seconds.
When the plane lands, the FBI are waiting at the airport and all the passengers are told that they have been missing for 5 years, presumed dead.
Obviously it’s a shock to all the passengers and the show explores many themes including moving on after a tragedy, love, grief, friendship and rivalry.
The effect of the technical hitch on the plane has left some of the passengers that were on the flight with some interesting ‘powers’ and the exploration of what the characters are capable of and why they are imbued with these gifts is also explored.
It’s a really interesting story and one that unravels quite slowly but is just fascinating to watch, I watched the whole 1st season in a day and can’t wait for the next season.
3. Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark
Starring: Zoe Margaret Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, Lorraine Toussaint, Austin Zajur, Natalie Ganzhorn and many more…
I got the opportunity to see this film for free as part of The National Lottery’s Cinema and Film Day. I had read the books that this film is based on when I was a kid, and they terrified me back then. As an adult, I don’t scare that easily or feel repulsed as quick as I did when I was younger.
But the effects of the amazing makeup and the downright horrific ways in which these characters meet their ends is nothing short of genius. I absolutely loved this film and it is one of the best horror films I have seen in my life.
The young and mostly unknown cast are also very good actors, and they are very believable and show an amazing array of acting skills and emotions during the film.
If you like horror movies and genuinely want a really good scare, go see this movie, it’s brilliant.
