Paper App Review (iPad)

Posted on April 23, 2012 by Toast Pop Posted in Tech .

There are tons of intricate and simple drawing apps available in the App store and I’ve tried a couple of them. But when Paper by FiftyThree made its debut it was an instant hit. Its popularity has died down a bit on social networking sites like Twitter but it still remains a favorite in my book.

What Paper by FiftyThree offers iPad users:

  1. A free app
  2. Simplicity
  3. The on screen “paper” aspect of this app truly feels as if you are drawing on tangible paper
  4. Basic colors
  5. One free drawing pen but offers four other styles of pen for a price of $1.99
  6. Slick hand gestures, for example: pinching in and out to close notebooks
  7. Several notebooks with ability to alter cover photo
  8. Works best with stylus pen
9. Sharing options to Tumblr, Facebook, and Twitter

This app makes even the worst artist’s drawing look fantastic. It has something to do with the strokes and movements that Paper allow you to work with. With this app you can quickly take notes or if you are a serious artist then Paper is the right drawing app for you. It’s beautiful and definitely worth the download.

Paper by FiftyThree is available in the app store for free. Also, check out the cinematic review below.

Vinyl Pop Art: Art Recycling Itself

Posted on March 14, 2012 by Toast Pop Posted in Art, Pop Culture .

One man’s antique entertainment is another’s artistic medium, right? Well, Greg Frederick certainly thinks so. In fact, he found such inspiration in vinyl records that he uses them to create beautiful works of art. The records, their sleeves, and their packaging are broken, ripped, or cut into various shapes and sizes. Once he has all of his pieces at the ready, Mr. Frederick puts them together like a giant puzzle into whatever unique image his brain melds them into.

His works have gained quite a fan following. They have climbed the artistic ladder high enough to have appeared next Andy Warhol’s silkscreens in the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian art. Amazingly, his works are available for purchase, and he does custom work for clients. To contact him about custom pieces or a piece that you absolutely love and wish to purchase, visit his website www.vinylpopart.com.

UZO Umbrellas

Posted on January 15, 2012 by James Agee Posted in Lifestyle, Style .

One doesn’t generally take into consideration what kind of umbrella they are using in todays market. There is such a problem with mass production of cheap quality products, that the most functional are left unnoticed. UZO Umbrellas is making a large impact in changing that. The way you see umbrellas will never be the same. Think about it, an umbrella is quite possibly one of the most useful accessories to have when leaving the house on a dreary day, but it can be a frustrating one if you are using a cheaply made one.

Taking the umbrella a step further, UZO Umbrellas is turning this useful accessory into a fashion statement with their brillant line of colors to choose from. One major feature that makes a UZO Umbrella better than most all others is it’s ability to protect the user from rain completely by leaving no part of the area above your head exposed. It was brilliantly thought of and conceived by Ronald Obmaces, a fantastic designer and engineer.

What other umbrella company with those features can boast about owning 24 patents worldwide? None come to mind. It’s quite easy to see why the UZO Umbrella would be a magnificent choice to keep you dry and looking better than anyone else holding an umbrella on a rainy day.

Ellie Goulding’s Lights Interactive Game

Posted on November 2, 2011 by Toast Pop Posted in Music .

If you have ever heard Ellie Goulding, you will automatically recognize her unique voice in her single ‘Lights’. Like her other songs, ‘Lights’ gives you a light, upbeat feeling. However, unlike her other songs, there is an interactive game to go along with the single. To go along with the free, bubbly feeling that comes with her song ‘Lights’ is a small game. It begins with the introduction, where the background is fading in, only black and white.

When her voice comes in, a light, similar to a shooting star appears. The longer you hold down your mouse, the faster the light travels. Moving your mouse also directs the light. When the chorus kicks in, the world of black and white turns to different colors. All along, the circles in the background bounce to the beat.

There is also a part when twitter usernames show up in the background. On the bottom ofthe loading page, there is an option to tweet about the site, and have your own show up in the interactive colorful world of ‘Lights’. After the first chorus, strips of color line along with the circles, leaving you in a world that’s even more colorful and bright. More thing happen as you progress through the song. The interactive game that goes along with ‘Lights’ fits very rightfully with the song. To experience this online pheromone simply visit lights.elliegoulding.com!

Bradley Moore’s Photography

Posted on October 24, 2011 by Toast Pop Posted in Art .

Bradley Moore is a photographer in the making, who has been doing photography unprofessionally for three years now. The imagery he manages to capture with the lens of his camera serve well to show the natural beauty of the environment. Moore took the time to talk about photography, and the effect it has had over his life.

“I was given a cheap simple digital camera as a gift, and I’ve always loved the outdoors, and I decided I wanted to forever capture a single moment in history that’ll never occur again exactly the same, because in today’s world not many take the time to see nature in its most beautiful moments.” Moore responded when asked what led to him getting involved with and interested in Photography.

Moore describes photography as being a doorway, an escape from life, which gives him the ability to capture any moment in time, reserving it forever. “Sometimes I get frustrated when I snap about 50 pictures of one scene and none of them turn out the way I wanted. But the best feeling is when I capture the moment in a single shot, or at most 3, that’s thrilling. I agree with the old phrase that the journey is sometimes better than the destination.” Replied Moore when asked about how he felt when he captured the image he wants to preserve.

While Moore is exceptionally talented at photography, he has some doubts about making a career at it. He stated, “Personally, I would love to become a self-employed, starving artist type of photographer… that doesn’t necessarily starve. But I’ll most likely only keep it as a hobby through my life. My goal ultimately in photography is to glorify Almighty Jehovah God that created the universe and all its beauty, picture by picture.”

Moore has a bit of advice to those of you who are interested in getting involved in photography, be it as a career goal, or as a simple hobby. He said, “If you see something you like, snap a pic of it. Do it for yourself. All in all, you are always you’re biggest, hardest art critic. When you capture a moment no one else sees, it’s like your own little secret between you and Mother Nature.”

Not all of Moore’s photographs are planned out, at times, he just sees something he wants to capture, and he has to run and get his camera, and hope that he gets back in time to catch it with his camera. While other times, he plans out trips, to capture specific images. Thus, his photography is a combination of impulse and planning.

To sum up photography, Moore said, “The genius of the watchmaker is that he leaves details in his work that not everyone will see, but those studying the watch will eventually see the beauty.”

Shop Michelle Rose

Posted on October 14, 2011 by James Agee Posted in Style .

It is almost impossible to find cool things that are different and unique anymore, with all of the chaos of industrialized clothing and gifts. Yet, we sought out an amazing artist who creates unique things, and guess what? We found one! This jewelry creator describes the style that she creates as “Retro Futuristic Rock Star Style”.

Michelle Rose is a Los Angelas based entrepreneur who is making quite the impression on those who buy her jewelry. While her main talents consist of jewelry making, she also does her own graphic designing and promoting, and she does it well! We had the opportunity to get the inside scoop on what is behind this amazing artist with jewelry’s self made store.

When asked what got her started with jewelry making, Michelle told us,”I’ve been dabbling in jewelry making since I was a kid but was frustrated by my lack of training in creating components of my own design. Soon I found a way to laser cut plastic, which excited me, but that method has its limitations. I hope to take a metal casting class soon so I can create my own designs in three-dimensional metals, and perhaps other materials.” The fact that she uses different mediums when creating her jewelry is perhaps what makes it so unique.

We were curious if she does it for just a hobby or as a career, so we asked her and she responded with,”I left my job in the garment industry this year to pursue self-employment as a sole source of income. It’s been tough, but I am hoping to see an upswing within the next year as I realign myself and use my time to explore more creative outlets including creating more artistic clothing & jewelry pieces, handbags, paintings, and home decor items.” It’s possible to have a career in a field that you do enjoy working in, and Michelle is living proof of that. She currently only sells on the website called Etsy, but it appears that this business plan is serving her well.

Finally, we were curious as to what her plans are for the future of her business. We assumed that a business this creative has to have plans for expanding. She told us,”You’ve caught me in a major stage of transition! Many new things are coming up. It’s hard to say what exactly they will be, but as I said I want to work in a lot of other mediums. My new goal is to create more unique pieces with plenty of artistic value.” We can’t wait to see what is in store next for this artistic entrepreneur, but we have no doubt that it will be creative and surprise us all! With her unique sense of style and drive to make her brand successful, we know we will be hearing more about her in the future!

If you want to learn more about her business and where it is headed just check out her website at Michelle-Rose.com or to buy some of her uniquely styled jewelry pay a visit to her shop on Etsy by going to ShopMichelleRose.Etsy.com!
