People always say to me, “Angie, which game is better for online play: Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3?” My answer is Black Ops, but for the sake of this article, I’ll stick to the two previously mentioned. I hate to say this because I, myself, am a CoD fangirl, but MW3 did not meet the standards that many players wanted in their online play. Nearly everyone was in love with Modern Warfare 2 and, to be honest, Modern Warfare 3 is just not as good. Another issue with Modern Warfare 3, apart from broken spawns allowing you to be spawn killed dozens of times in a row, the graphics looking a little odd, and the play just not feeling right, their was a manufacturing error in the disks. This error caused the majority of the Xbox 360 disks to throw an error, “Disk Unreadable”, even though the games were new. If the place you purchase your copy from allows you to purchase a warranty, I suggest doing so. Take it from the girl who was only able to play one match before receiving the error. Luckily, I had a copy for PS3 as well.
Most game modes in MW3 allow the players to be somewhat independent and allow players to spend more time trash talking. On BF3, you actually can choose from classes that will help your team win, rather than everyone running around with noobtubes and submachine guns. Battlefield 3 is much more team based than MW3. Also, BF3 has a destructible environment (which I LOVE). While they are both shooters, they are almost entirely different. One thing that I wish both these games would adopt is a concept brought to us by Homefront. In Homefront, if you spawn kill, the kill would not get added to your kill streak, nor did you receive any points for doing so. Personally, I think spawn camping ruins the games for a lot of players, especially new players. Adding this to these games would reduce the amount of players who rage quit and/or throw their controller through their TV screen.
So, based on the differences that each game has, and with the differences being so major, I say “No, it is not fair to compare these two games”. All in all, Modern Warfare 3 had an amazing campaign. It even brought tears to my eyes, but don’t worry, no spoilers will be given here. If you want your journey with Price and Soap to continue, play the campaign. Even if you hate the online play, you will love the storyline. I mean, don’t you want to know who, if anyone, kills Makarov? As for Battlefield 3, it is a beautiful game that I highly recommend giving a try if you want that real army experience without leaving your couch (and without having to be as in shape, of course).
