Plus Size and Proud: Fashion Blogs and Sites for Women

Posted on November 15, 2013 by Toast Pop Posted in Style .

Plus Size and Proud- Fashion Blogs and Sites for WomenThin isn’t always “in”. There are so many women who proud of their shapeliness. Women who are without a rhyme or reason to try and change who they like to be; themselves. That being said, there are no doubt places where plus sized women can go to enjoy the company of others with like minds and similar interests. This includes forums, blogs, and websites that are solely oriented towards a plus sized audience.

When buying clothes for the plus sized individual, it can be hard when most online shopping sites tend to cater to the thinly sized models in their advertisement pictures. This is basically an unspoken message that the sizes they sell might not go much higher than what a small or medium waist would wear. Thankfully, there are sites, such as www.curvety.com that cater to the plus sized model body type, along with the average woman’s size.

There are places to go on the web for communication with others in similar situations and with people who can relate to living as a plus sized woman. Some of these websites include such blogs as www.thecurvyfashionista.com, where plus sized women in the fashion world are extensively highlighted. The blog also features tips and tricks to everyday women’s clothing, makeup application tips, and is the prime place to go for women oriented talk shows.

Fashion lines, such as Tru Diva, are hosted there. Other blogs that center around the life of individual plus sized women, such as www.theplussideofme.com, can also provide tips for fashion, as well as giving some insight into the everyday life of a proudly plus sized woman. For this blog in particular, the fasion clothing brand Kiyonna is particularly favored. This clothing line can be accessed at www.Kiyonna.com, where numerous shipping options are available and numerous styles of dress can be accessed.

The great thing about these blogs is that there is usually a list of affiliated links located on the main landing page, which more often than not can include sites of similar taste and style. These can be helpful links that will provide more exposure to new interests and even sites that you might visit on a regular basis, due to it having content that pertains to the blog’s topics.

Taking a look at online stores for plus sized women can be most helpful for those who might live in smaller towns, that don’t have many brick and mortar plus sized women clothing shops. It can also help out those women who live in even larger cities, but don’t live within a short driving distance from any plus sized outlets nearest them.

Items that can only be found exclusively online can also be found there, that probably would not be carried at a typical store. For example, specially tailored clothing can easily be ordered with a specific sizing, if special measurements are required for clothing and accessories. Not to mention, many of the more upscale plus sized fashion designers might only sell their clothing lines on specific web sites.

tips,

“Truth Stained Lies” ToastPop Book Review

Posted on June 1, 2013 by kejohns323 Posted in Books .
When the truth doesn't make sense, will lies prevail?

When the truth doesn’t make sense, will lies prevail?

There’s no lying there that Terri Blackstock’s newest suspense novel, Truth Stained Lies is her most intense work to date! There’s enough detail and action to keep readers engaged from cover to cover.  Cathy Crammer, a speculative and judgmental investigative blogger, receives a mysterious death threat from a reader looking to turn the tables on her with her own judgements. Then her family is shaken up when her brother’s wife is murdered and he is accused of it. The couple was emotionally heated in the process of divorce and fought for custody of their five year old son. Cathy and her sisters, Holly and Juliet, serve as part-time private investigators teaming with a family friend to prove their brother innocent, release him from jail, and gain him custody of his son. Meanwhile the child becomes life-threateningly ill and hospitalized, and later kidnapped! Beyond the mystery and suspense, the characters deal on a personal level with things like bitterness, grudges, a broken family life, poor life choices, and questioning of faith.

Blackstock explains that Truth Stained Lies was inspired by the Casey Anthony trial. She followed some of the blogs written by people with legal backgrounds who went behind-the-scenes for details on the case, “some of which wasn’t being allowed in court,” Blackstock says. Seeing how people were often angered by the speculation from the blogs, Blackstock says she began her “usual What-If routine… What if someone set up a crime to turn the tables on the blogger? What if that crime put the blogger in the position of being judged?” From this she created the lead character, Cathy Crammer, “a former prosecutor who started her blog after her fiance was murdered. She’s determined to make guilty people pay—so she investigates and speculates, and posts her findings” until the threat and the murder of her sister-in-law.

Fans and readers will not be disappointed! In fact, many will be begging for more! Many Amazon customers love the story, rank Truth Stained Lies with five stars, and anxiously await the following book in this new Moonlighers series. The Library Journal calls it, “Crisp prose, an engaging story, and brisk pacing make this thriller another home run for Blackstock.”

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries: Pride and Prejudice Meets the Present

Posted on May 25, 2013 by kejohns323 Posted in Books, Pop Culture .

Lizzie Bennet Logo“It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” This is the line that begins the timeless Jane Austen classic Pride and Prejudice. Most literary critics would think of this line as a reflection (or a satire) upon relational values of Jane Austen’s time and place in history, but to the average reader, it sets the premise of the love story it is today known to be. However you read Jane Austen, this year celebrates two hundred years of existence for Pride and Prejudice. Perhaps it’s a truth universally acknowledged now that a lot has changed in society since Austen wrote it. Being so far removed from Austen’s time in this day and age certainly puts a damper on fully understanding this beloved classic, but The Lizzie Bennet Diaries brings it all to the twenty-first century.

The Lizzie Bennet Diaries portrays the Austen classic in a very contemporary way, and still remains true to the tale. It is a one hundred episode blog series on Youtube that is hosted by the headstrong, independent Lizzie Bennet. In each short episode she unfolds a dramatic scene from Pride and Prejudice with her intelligent best friend, Charlotte Wu; her perfect sister, Jane; their wild-child sister, Lydia; their restless, southern-bell mother and aloof father; the rich and sweet Dr. Bing Li, and many other characters from the novel. Whether you’re a fan of Jane Austen, or you’re trying to understand what’s going on in Pride and Prejudice, it is fun, enjoyable, and easy for anyone to follow. The modern aspect is a big help in understanding the plot and dated references.

Though rich, single men may not always be seeking marriage these days; nor might unusual women be anxious to snatch them up, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries bridges the two century time span to enlighten and entertain students and lovers of classic literature. All the modern aspects of the series, like the web-blogging medium, the colorful characters, and the pop culture craving for drama, are tuned to reflect the classic novel, which makes great entertainment for the literary enthusiast, a wonderful supplement or resource for studying Pride and Prejudice. The Lizzie Bennet Diaries introduces the classic to modern times.

Plugged In

Posted on February 8, 2012 by kejohns323 Posted in Tech .

We are so plugged into things these days. We plug in phones or music players to charge and manage them. We plug in appliances to use them. We plug in extension cords to power tools at a distance. Sometimes we need to plug in extra plugs for all our things that are electronically powered. I’m sure we all own a power strip or two for that purpose. They’re rectangular plastic blocks, usually a white or cream color, with a glowing red switch on the end. You’ve seen one power strip, you’ve pretty much seen them all, right? Well, not exactly. It’s highly unlikely you have ever seen a Power Squid before.

The Power Squid is a squid-shaped plug board. Acting as the tentacles are bendable power sockets and the body possesses the breaker switch along with other functional and protective units. Some models have surge protection and power filters. The power cord of the Calamari edition-the most technologically customized and most expensive Power Squid-has a rotatable platform for flexibility in plugging into the wall. Available on powersquid.com, the products are sold a few different colors. All Squids are under lifetime warranty. The Calamari edition and the other costly cephalopods come with a $75,000 equipment insurance policy. This company strives for prompt delivery service. They do their best to ship orders received before noon (EST) on the same business day. At the most it will take about three business days to deliver.

The Power Squid is a product of Flexity LLC, a subsidiary of Trident Design LLC. They’re based out of Columbus, Ohio. Chris Hawker conceived the idea of the Power Squid in 2000 when he noticed a mess of cords underneath his stereo late at night. Hawker documents the process of bringing the Power Squid to life in a six-part blog series titled “The Song of the Power Squid: The Inside Story of the Life of an Invention”. In addition to this products history, he shares useful information surrounding the business of innovation. You can read these blogs on Trident-design.com.

You haven’t seen it all until you’ve seen the Power Squid! It has all the electrical capabilities of your typical power strip (if not more), but its sleekly designed for greater function. Get plugged into a Power Squid!
