Cas Lowood comes from a long line of expert ghost hunters. The ghosts are trying to make their way to the ‘ other side’ but aren’t quite sure how to get there, so they revisit the accident that killed them in the first place.
Cas’s job is to help the ghosts cross over to the other side. And usually this goes well and without a hitch.
Until he meets Anna. Straight away from that first meeting, Cas knows that Anna is different. He can somehow sympathise with her, but he is also aware that she is perhaps the strongest and the most resilient ghost he has ever met.
I read this book a couple of years ago, but I remember that I was extremely excited to read it, and it didn’t disappoint. The characters are very well thought out, especially Anna. Anna really did die in horrific circumstances, and her backstory (which is revealed to us during the course of the book) really does make you sympathise with her an awful lot, even if she is a very powerful and evil ghost, hellbent on making her perpetrators pay for what happened to her.
And the story is also about the seemingly impossible kind-of love story between Cas and Anna. He knows he can never be with her because she is a ghost, but he also feels for her and her situation.
I remember really liking this book, and I am excited to see where the story goes in book 2, ‘Girl Of Nightmares’.
