There were a variety of treats that filled the insides of the box this month! For starters there was a decadent Award Winning S’mores Cookie by Baking Betty’s, along with a Peanut Butter Cup Cookie, that got our mouthes watering. A fun international twist was the inclusion of Cici’s Italian Butterhorns and the Orange Cranberry Welsh Cakes by Welsh Cakes. To top the frenzy of home baked treats off, there was a chocolaty Gluten-Free Ultimate Brownie by the Fine Sconeheng Baking Company.

Based off of the list of food included in this month’s box, you can probably tell how much thought goes into choosing what foods get sent to your doorstep. Haven Book Review

Posted on October 6, 2012 by Mackenzie Lynd Posted in Books .

Haven by Kristi CookHaven is the first book in the Winterhaven series. It is written by Kristi Cook. Violet decides to go to a boarding school simply because she feels called to go. When she arrives she finds that one of her deepest secrets is the reason she is there. She has physic abilities along with everyone else. Then she meets a boy and she keeps having visions of his death. Now I saw this book in the store and picked it up right away. I was intrigued by the concept. It is definitely not the story I was expecting, which turned out to be a perk. I liked not knowing what was going to happen next. This book did have some frustrating as I like to call “girl” moments. You know when they doubt everything? That is what I am talking about. The good thing was that it only happened once or twice so it wasn’t that bad. It has a decent pacing. It really picked up halfway through. I really enjoyed the side characters. They actually had a role in the story and were memorable. I gave this book 4.5/5. I really did enjoy it and will continue with the series.

Adam Lambert & Steve Cooke

Posted on March 6, 2012 by James Agee Posted in Music .

Most of us know of Adam Lambert, runner up on American Idol and of Steve Cooke, but did you know that they have a newly released album of live sessions? They do! The Paramount Sessions features these two recording some fantastic music at the Paramount Studios in Hollywood, California! Surprisingly they both sound great live, and the songs are different than what I am used to listening to, but still very good. The album is a more insightful look into the personal mood set in a live recording session, one that only an album like this can create. If you are a fan of either, or simply want to hear some new music, be sure to check out the album Adam Lambert & Steve Cooke – Paramount Sessions at MVD for a great price and great service!

Apple Gets Planted in Grand Central Station

Posted on December 18, 2011 by kejohns323 Posted in Tech .

Everything is bigger in New York City-the buildings, the crowds, the traffic congestion, and now Apple’s newest retail store. According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple opened a new store in the Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan, New York last week at 10am on Friday, December 9th. This makes the fifth Apple store in New York City and one of three-hundred worldwide. It overlooks the main concourse on the east and northeast balconies. According to Apple, 2,500 people awaited the store’s grand opening and had received nearly 4,000 visitors before noon. To date, this is the biggest of Apple’s stores; spanning 23,000 square feet.

While the store itself has all the necessities of your typical Apple store, aesthetically it’s conformed to the style of the historical landmark. One feature very unique to this store would be the fifteen minute” express classes” on the use of Apple’s products. These classes are intended for commuters who are looking to kill time between departures. Also offered through iPhone apps are self-checkout and personal pick-up services for the customers on the go.

Even though Apple is not sharing revenues (unlike other venders in the building) with the Metropolitan Transit Authority- the company owning the Grand Central Terminal- they believe Apple’s presence quadruples rent and will strongly increase foot traffic to other retailers in the same area. Apple is shelling out $180 per square foot over their ten year lease on the space. Apple’s bill for the commercial space also includes paying $5 million to buy out the lease of the prior tenant, $1.1 million for yearly rent, and $2.5 million for construction. This is certainly a big bite for the big apple! The next time you’re experiencing the enormous grandeur of the city that never sleeps, stop by Grand Central and see Apple’s huge new store for yourself!
