Kim Westad: Fulfillment Through Pottery

Posted on March 3, 2012 by Toast Pop Posted in Art, Lifestyle .

We fill our homes with things that make us feel content and fulfilled but are beautiful to look at. Kim Westad decided that her training as a graphic designer simply didn’t fulfill her need to create or to bring a feeling of contentment to others. In her search for something to make her life better, she stumbled upon a pottery class and fell in love. Here at the potter’s wheel was the sense of creativity and fulfillment that she had craved, and from that, burst a business. She left her job to create pottery and in May of 2004, she set up her own studio.

She has several collections of unique pieces: whirls, vases, ornaments, pendants, cups, mugs, and bowls. Each piece is beautiful, useable, and done completely by hand so as to ensure a unique product. Kim finds the fact that people enjoy not only enjoy looking at her work but actually putting it to work a joy in and of itself. You can view her works and find more information about Kim Westad at http://kimwestad.com/ .

Invisible Creature

Posted on February 27, 2012 by Toast Pop Posted in Art, Pop Culture .

Don and Ryan Clark, founders of Invisible Creature

Creativity is a gift that manifests in so many different ways. The Clark brothers, Don and Ryan, would agree, I’m sure. The brothers spent their childhoods watching their father and grandfather using their gifts to illustrate and do woodworking, both of them creating beautiful things in very different ways.

In the brothers’ case, they doodled a bit and dabbled in punk rock, even going so far as to tour the country with a band of their own making. However, they found the need to return to California and broaden their horizons in Seattle. After much success with a  previous studio, they decided to create Invisible Creature, a company that combined their love of music and art into one whirlwind company.

Now Invisible Creature designs cover art for some of the most well known brands to date. Nike, T-Mobile, Target, Nickelodeon, and Lego name just a few. They’ve even been nominated for multiple Grammy awards! See all that they have designed at invisiblecreature.com!

Greeting Cards with a Different Spin

Posted on December 19, 2011 by Toast Pop Posted in Art .

Tis’ the  season to begin looking at greeting cards, and as always, we see the same round and frosty snowman or jolly Saint Nick with his reindeer and sleigh. Once in awhile we’ll see the serene nativity scene wishing us a merry holiday, but what if we want something a little less traditional and a little more creative?

Wrenay Gomez Charlton obviously saw the need for something new and provides a breath of fresh air to the greeting card world with her unique prints, cards, and calendars. Each one contains the silhouette of an animal, and within the animal is a road map from the state the animal is indigenous to. Maps have been used as décor for quite some time, but never before have they been displayed in such a way.  Each card is beautifully imaginative and would be a wonderful way to say Happy Holidays, Happy Birthday, or even to just let someone know you’re thinking of them. Just checkout the Wrenmade online shop for more information and inspiration!

Ellie Goulding’s Lights Interactive Game

Posted on November 2, 2011 by Toast Pop Posted in Music .

If you have ever heard Ellie Goulding, you will automatically recognize her unique voice in her single ‘Lights’. Like her other songs, ‘Lights’ gives you a light, upbeat feeling. However, unlike her other songs, there is an interactive game to go along with the single. To go along with the free, bubbly feeling that comes with her song ‘Lights’ is a small game. It begins with the introduction, where the background is fading in, only black and white.

When her voice comes in, a light, similar to a shooting star appears. The longer you hold down your mouse, the faster the light travels. Moving your mouse also directs the light. When the chorus kicks in, the world of black and white turns to different colors. All along, the circles in the background bounce to the beat.

There is also a part when twitter usernames show up in the background. On the bottom ofthe loading page, there is an option to tweet about the site, and have your own show up in the interactive colorful world of ‘Lights’. After the first chorus, strips of color line along with the circles, leaving you in a world that’s even more colorful and bright. More thing happen as you progress through the song. The interactive game that goes along with ‘Lights’ fits very rightfully with the song. To experience this online pheromone simply visit lights.elliegoulding.com!
