On August 15th, 1977, music lovers mourned the loss of Elvis Presley, the king of 1950’s rock and roll. Or so has been thought over the past thirty-five years…written and directed by documentarian Joel Gilbert, Elvis Found Alive is an exclusive and stunning documentary of where the beloved be-bop music icon had supposedly gone.
This project came about after Gilbert visited Graceland. He made a Freedom of Information Act Request to the US government asking for their files on Elvis. Amazingly, FBI records revealed the musician’s 1970’s alias, Jon Burrows and a residential address in Simi Valley, California. After a brief confrontation, Elvis agreed to chronicle his secret life and history.
The film is not affiliated with Elvis Presley Enterprises, but is a production of Highway 61 Entertainment. It is about two hours long, and sectioned into fourteen chapters. The subject topics span from his childhood in 1935 to his music and military careers in the fifties, to his dealings in recent years. There have been several reviews on this film. John Latchem of Home Media magazine says “This is the kind of tribute that Elvis fans should enjoy immensely…the idea that Elvis Presley is still alive is one of the more fascinating aspects of his legacy, and the elaborate conspiracy theories surrounding his death could fill volumes.” The Boston Event Guide claims, “it’s a pretty fascinating look at the career of one of the most iconic performers the world has ever known, narrated by what we are supposed to believe is the King himself as he is today…”
The least expensive purchase of Elvis Found Alive is on mvd.com, costing $11.21 USD before shipping. However, a companion cd is available when purchased from elvisfoundalive.com. On this site, both the dvd and cd are $14.95 USD, but bought together are $24.95 USD (pre-shipping). Purchases from the documentary website claim to ship in twenty-four hours.
