What an amazing mind twist! I was lucky to get a chance to read a net galley advanced copy of this book and I am glad I did. The main character Velvet is an angsty teen with a serious attitude problem. I cannot understand why (sarcasm) as I would feel the same way if I was stuck in Purgatory after being killed so early in life.
Danny Marks created a great set of characters while giving readers a chance to see the darkness of a teen’s mind. Her relationship with the other characters was refreshingly dark and sometimes a bit over the top. Her quest for vengeance toward Bonesaw really messed with my brain and I can see how it would mess with other readers as well. I liked that Danny did not even touch the insta-love button with this story even though he could have. I did find Nick to be a bit more irritating than most secondary characters because of his inability to be mature. I am not saying Velvet was mature because frankly she bugged me with her attitude at times in the novel.
The only reason I am not giving this book 5 stars because I had to put it down many times through the course of the week because I sometimes had a tough time getting into the plot. For me, it waxed and waned but I will say I did very much enjoy the ending. I look forward to Danny’s next work:)
