Since you’ve signed up for your gym membership, you’ve had a few setbacks with meeting your weekly attendance goals. Before you throw in the towel, here are five ways to help rekindle your desire for going to the gym.
Set a specific goal. Are you seeking to release weight for an upcoming event, vacation, or simply to look like one of your favorite celebrities? Whatever your reason for doing so, it is imperative that you establish an end goal that must be accomplished by a certain time period. Many times people set and accomplish their goals, only to find themselves in the same position at which they started. To avoid such outcomes, you must develop a plan of action to help you maintain your fitness goal.
Establish realistic times you can go to the gym. Having a busy schedule is an excuse that is used by many persons who fail to meet their gym attendance obligation. When finalizing your weekly gym schedule, you should also create an alternative plan if you’re unable to go to the gym on the proposed days. With this approach, you’ll be able to fulfill your weekly commitment without falling behind. There may be times when you miss a few sessions due to illness or unforeseen circumstances. These should be the only valid reasons for your inconsistent gym attendance. Any reasons outside of these situations would only be considered as excuses. Another important factor to consider is the location of the gym. You’ll be more inclined to go to a gym located closer to your home or workplace.
Get a workout partner. This person can be a friend, colleague, or family member. He/She should be on the same fitness journey on which you’re embarking. Arrange to a time and frequency to meet at the gym. This can be morning or evening sessions for two, three, four, or five days out of the week. Make sure to select a time and frequency that works best for all parties involved.
Take before and after photos. As the saying goes a picture paints a thousand words. While the initial photos may not have an effect on you in the beginning, as time progresses you’ll see the major differences in your appearance once you follow through with your workouts and healthy eating habits. You can take pictures on a monthly basis until you’ve accomplished your fitness goal. Looking at your progression will ignite the desire to press forward and maintain your ideal physique.
Immerse yourself in a fitness-oriented community. Being around people who are seeking to improve or maintain their fitness habits will allow you to experience greater success, than if you were to spend more time with non-active individuals. Some of the latter may be your friends and family members. This doesn’t mean that you have to cut them out of your life, but you’ll have to make decisions along your fitness journey that may coincide with their plans. If a friend invites you to go to the movies at the same time you’re scheduled to be at the gym, you would have to choose going to the gym over going to the movies.
