What’s an Indie author? The word “indie” comes from the root word individual. An Indie author is an individual author who has self-published a book without help from other entities. A lot of people may find this to be uncommon, but it’s not at all. Hundreds of years ago, every author had to go through a press in order to get noticed and published. Times change, people change. Today, media and technology is advertising a lot of Indie authors and supporting them through countless interviews and book blurbs. So, what’s the status quo, Carl? It’s been predicted by many researchers that Indie authors will become more prevalent and presses will become nonexistent by 2020. Yeah, 2020! Perfect vision, perfect writing! Why? The root reason is Indie authors are taking the time to learn all of the loops in getting a book published. Recently, I wrote a blog post about Book Publishing 101. Myself, as well as others, have had these experiences and going through a press for an agent and/or editor becomes unnecessary. Many presses of today do not publish certain books because of their content, theme, and the notion of them not making an abundant of purchases. It’s vital for Indie authors to understand how to manuever through the hidden fees they encounter. To conclude, Indie authors must build up a network of readers and writers, as well as doing freebies to draw a bigger audience. The bigger your network, the more successful you become in advertising your book!
Decorating during the holiday season always transforms the home into a warm and inviting refuge from the hustle and bustle of holiday preparations. Decorations that are created by the family create personal heirlooms that can be enjoyed for years to come. Creating adornments from natural items also helps remove some of the strain from the decorating budget. Many beautiful Christmas decorations can be made at home. Items can be either bought from a craft or large department store or obtained by gathering supplies from the environment. A beautiful door swag can be created from every day household items and natural items that are found in the yard.
- coat hanger
- one sq. ft. chicken wire
- winterberry bundles
- two or more apples
- dark green pipe cleaner
- large decorative bow
- wire cutters
Directions: Pull the wire hanger at the top and bottom until it forms a diamond shape. Using a wire cutter and heavy duty work gloves, attach the chicken wire to the hanger by bending cut pieces of wire around the hanger. Create six bundles of greenery by securing them at the top with the pipe cleaner. Begin attaching the bundles starting from the bottom up so they overlap and completely cover the chicken wire. Attach two or three winterberry bundles to the top of the swag, securing with pipe cleaner. Core two or more apples and run a piece of pipe cleaner through the centers, twist to secure at the back and attach to the chicken wire near the top of the swag. Top with a gorgeous holiday bow. Other Christmas decorations can be created that also make a fun project for almost any age family member. Holiday orbs that are made from gumdrops are easy to make and a beautiful addition to any tree.
- styrofoam balls
- straight pins
- hot glue gun
- gum drops
Directions: This project involves scissors, hot glue and straight pins and may not be suitable for younger children. Start by applying a dot of hot glue on the styrofoam ball. Cut an appropriate length of ribbon and overlap the ends onto the glue and secure with a straight pin. Apply the gum drops closely to one another around the ball, attaching with the hot glue gun. Alternating colors will help produce a more balanced effect. Allow several hours for the glue to dry. The ornament can be hung on a tree or from a chandelier. Craft stores sell preservative sprays that can be used to keep the decorations from spoiling.

Author Interview With KC Hilton:
This is my recent interview with author KC Hilton, she is the author of three writings The Magic of Finkleton series as well as her adult novel 90 Miles To Freedom. KC is a wife, mother, photographer, as well as an author! As a child she was born and raised in Aurora, Illinois. She loved to play with the neighborhood kids when she was little and in her spare time she would read her books. She currently lives in Kentucky with her family and there dog “Roxy”. Without further ado here is my interview with author KC Hilton!
1. What made you decide that you wanted to be an author?
Honestly, I never thought I’d be a writer. I’m a creative person and I enjoy expressing myself in every aspect of my life. When I was a little girl, I wrote down my dreams and thoughts in a diary. I enjoyed photography and being creative. Being creative and thinking outside of the box spills out of me at every turn. I’m a Master Barber, Photographer and a Writer.
One year during our family vacation, I had a bad dream. Having a bad dream isn’t unusual, but I hadn’t had one in years. It was four o’clock in the morning and everyone was sleeping. In the dark I scribbled what I could on the back of a business card. Usually when I wrote down a bad dream, it would go away, but for months, this particular dream stuck with me. I couldn’t shake it, no matter what I did, so I decided to write the dream in more detail. At one point, I realized it had become a full story. This dream turned out to be 90 Miles to Freedom. Later I had another fun dream, which became The Magic of Finkleton.
2. What inspires you to write and what keeps you writing?
Being able to express myself is what keeps me writing. I can describe more through words, than through a simple photograph. In the beginning (after getting some bad reviews) I thought about quitting or at least not let my stories see the light of day. But when my stories started getting some great reviews and winning awards, I decided to stick with it. I’m glad I did! I get fan email from a wide variety of people and they are wonderful.
3. Currently, what books have you written?
90 Miles to Freedom
The Magic of Finkleton
Return to Finkleton
4. Where did your ideas come from to write 90 Miles to Freedom, The Magic of Finkleton, and Return to Finkleton?
Most of my ideas come from dreams, but they also come to me while I’m driving long distances. I don’t normally listen to the radio when I travel. If I’m in the middle of writing a book, I like to just think.
5. Do you have any books you are currently writing? If so can you say anything about them?
I’m currently writing a YA book, My Name is Rapunzel. It’s a retelling of a fairytale. Currently I have a small synopsis on Goodreads. Until the entire book and synopsis has been edited, it will remain this way.
Fairy tales are for children. My name is Rapunzel and I will tell you my story. I will tell you the truth.
After I finish writing My Name is Rapunzel, I plan to write the last book in the Finkleton series, Saving Finkleton.
6. Do you read a lot? What is your favorite genre?
Yes, I love to read! I enjoy reading Historical Romance, YA and Adult. Fiction, Romance and Paranormal Romance, but recently I’ve started reading some scary. My favorite genre is Historical Romance.
7. Is book publishing a difficult process? Do you have any advice for people looking to get their books published?
90 Miles to Freedom was picked up by a small publisher and they wanted the Finkleton series. But I had put so much work into getting to know my readers, having the audio books made, entering contests and marketing; I finally decided to keep it and self publish. It wasn’t hard to do, since I used CreateSpace.
My advice would be to continue to learn the craft of writing. Read, read and read more. Before publishing I strongly suggest hiring an editor, then hire someone to proofread the book, twice. After the book has been proofread, then hire a second proofreader. It’s a must in my opinion. Friends and family can help at first, but ultimately the book needs to have a professional set of eyes do the final proofread. If the expense is a problem, then wait until the money is saved to have this done. In the end, it’ll be worth every penny.
8. And finally, how can people find out more about you? (websites: twitter, goodreads, facebook, blog)

Some people have a hard time finding cinema that fits their taste. One company has been serving artist and audiences for quite some time by providing a different selection of films. The cool thing about MVD is they offer the brand new concert on DVD’s that you want, and a selection of independent content as well. It’s great to see such a selection in one place. The best part is they are a great and friendly place to buy from.
Audiences everywhere are beginning to fall in love with a new generation of concerts on dvd. Most recently Owl City and Adele have been added to the selection over at MVD. You can expect to find great artist like Taylor Swift and others in the selection as well. From CD’s to DVD’s they seem to have it all. If you have a more independent taste in music and concerts on DVD then there are some great things for you there too. They offer many unauthorized documentaries, which are basically independently filmed stories of the artist and their journeys, something you don’t find everywhere! If you are looking for your favorite artist, or perhaps something different, MVD is the place to go.
Minecraft developer Marcus Persson and a couple people from TigSource are the core people behind this cheaply made indie game. Developer Persson quit his job as a game developer to make indie games and this was what came out of it. This game has a vast amount of open space and is one of the most unique games I have played. Not like most games Minecraft’s main objective is to create and design your own home and create unique places and fight off enemies. This game is still in Beta so it isn’t fully finished but for game not fully finished it is really good.
The creative style of the game is the most terrific part because you’re able to make environments that are straight from your imagination. You can create villages your own city, caves, and I have even seen people build huge towers just to blow them up. This game is just to show off your imagination and create your own world to adventure through. The game in my mind could be a little better and allow you to have people everywhere and be able to not just be a lone on this world.
Still the game is in BETA and won’t be done for a few years, it has been in the process since 2010. Many people would agree that a game that is perfected turns out to be perfect. Many games have been half done and know one wants to play them, a game takes every little detail into consideration. A great game isn’t just a story or how many things you can kill, it’s about what is fun. I consider Minecraft extremely fun and addictive, I don’t know what it is about this game that makes me want to pick it up every time. I give this game a high replay value and a great time consumer. You can go to the main website and start playing now buy purchasing the game or trying out the classic version, for free. So go out and enjoy the world of Minecraft.
