They thought it was over……… They were wrong.
Thomas and his Glader friends have escaped the Maze, but an even bigger challenge awaits…… They are told that the world outside is a desolate and barren landscape, and is overrun by people infected by the Flare, known as Cranks. Worse of all, they are told that they all have the Flare disease too.
But there is hope. After crossing the Scorch, they will find a ‘safe haven’ where a cure for the Flare will be available. But they only have two weeks in which to do it. Two weeks seems like ample time to trek across the landscape and find the cure, but it soon becomes clear that other dangers and even other people will do everything they can to stop the Gladers finding the all important cure.
And along the way we discover more about Thomas, Teresa and Aris’ involvement with the setting up of the Variables, and the truth behind the meaning of it all.
So begins a gruelling and life endangering mission of epic proportions.
While I did enjoy this book an awful lot, even more than the first one, I did have some issues with it.
The main issue I had was that apart from giving us more of an idea and a background behind the Trials, the book didn’t really add too much to the overall arch of the series. I will say that I was not expecting this instalment to be as action packed as the first one, but I was happily proven wrong. This book is non stop action, suspense and heartbreak.
I really do recommend this book series to everyone, go and read it.
