I have always imagined that there is more to the average than meets the eye. In fact, the average is what interest me the most. I can take a simple leaf and devise a complex past and future for it without having to compromise it’s current state of being normal, the power of imagination is great. Sharing the world that I see with others through literary works and written accounts, be they true or fictitious, is a passion and duty of mine.
Quick do you need that last minute holiday gift! Maybe that person is a book reader and you wanna get them a great YA book for the holidays but you don’t know which one! I know which one Mask City by James Agee Jr.
Goodreads Summary: With James Agee, Jr.’s second work of fiction, Mask City, he presents a world where two siblings, Thomas and Lacy Farthur, are thrust out of their seemingly harmless world into a society they formerly didn’t know existed: an underground domain where the common adage, “A person is not a person without a mask,” is exploited in the most dreadful manner. Thomas and Lacy, through a series of dramatic and horrendous undertakings, eventually find themselves challenging the system that took everything away from them. This work is an exploration of friendship, trust, redemption, and discovering purpose.
I rated this book 4/5 stars. One thing that I really wished there could have been a lot more of was the backstory I felt like the first few chapters were rushed and in many ways could have been expanded upon as well as expressed more visually. I really wanted to know more about the parents and as well as Thomas and Lacy. If you are always wanting something different that the usual romance stories then get this book because I mean WOW this book is based on an underground world, where it can be accessed with just the right imagination! At some parts throuout the book I wish that there would have been more details as well as being expressed in further detail. Thoughtout the book I would have really liked if there was a little more detail but I felt that there was several parts throughout the book that skipped detail and moved fast from one thing to another!
So much happened in this book that I think It had a great potential for being a book around 300 pages which woul have been great. I really liked the characters but would have liked to be connected to them I felt as if I really didn’t connect with them as well as I thought I could have. I really thought that the idea of the mask was a great sense in describing which group that person in which belonged. Overall this was a fantastic short read that you will enjoy. I also really liked the parts of the book that had illistrations in which you will see (illistrated by James).
