So there is this semi new genre called New Adult. It is geared more towards college aged people. It is my new love. If you have an ereader a lot of them are really well priced. I saw this book under that category so I took advantage of the good price and gave it a shot. Taking Chances by Molly McAdams follows an 18 year old girl named Harper. She has just moved away from her Marine dad and all the boys at the unit who are like her brothers. She is going to college as far away as she can get. Her dad isn’t really a present father and seems to dive himself into his job. When she moves away she quickly becomes friends with her roommate at the college she is attending. The night that they meet Harper is quickly dragged to her first party. After that she finds herself in quite a pickle when she starts falling for her roommate’s brother and the guy she has started dating.
This book is a rollercoaster ride. It jerked my emotions back and forth. One night something happens that whirls this situation all around and changes everything. I enjoyed the first half of this story very much and in my eyes it was an obvious book. When one thing happens that leads to another thing it just tears Harper’s world apart. At one point I just burst out crying because of what happened. This book surprised me and it just took a little bit of my soul. It’s like you feel like everything is going great and then bam! McAdams rips your heart out and stomps on it. I really don’t know how to explain this book or how it made me feel. The last 100 pages were very hard to get through due to the emotional element. If you are up for it I would definitely recommend it. I gave it 4/5 stars.
