It’s been a while since I have been on the site for that matter even wrote a book review! Well just a quick I am back!
Onto my review. I will be reviewing Velveteen by Daniel Marks. This book was horribly misleading from the synopsis. I really set my expectations high for this book but was greatly disappointing! Another reason I set the bar high for this one because reading other reviews and from a personal friend told me that this was a really good book but I wasn’t that pleased. Now, I will get onto the full review.
Book – Velveteen by Daniel Marks
Rating 2.5/5 Stars
The plot of the story- From what I gathered from the synopsis I thought the book was going to focus on a Velvteeen getting revenge on her murderer Bonesaw, but that was only mentioned in a few chapters! I was extremely disappointed because the blurb was very misleading. The story mainly revolves this alternate world known as purgatory and how it is slowly falling apart with unfortunate events.Throughout the book there was many parts the confused me it seemed like it would jump from scene to scene. There was just so much information and description thrown at you, that I found it hard to keep up and take everything in. There was just to much detail that it confused myself on what the world looked like. There was a lot of questions that weren’t answered and I would have liked to known but since there won’t be a sequel that’s just a waste!
Characters – The main character Velveteen was a pretty good character she said a lot of things that were funny so she had a good sense of humor. But she was also incredibly bitchy but she didn’t have a real girly attitude or that side of her but she held her ground when needed for the most part, atleast. Nick a new soul to purgatory he was a cool guy but it irritated me that the minute he laid eyes on Velvet he had total insta-love for her which was brought on way to early, to be even considered “True Love”. But aside from the lovers and their problems I really enjoyed the other characters in the book such as Logan, Kipper, Quentin, Miss Antonia, Luisa etc…. I really liked how at the end of the book one of the characters that was mentioned earlier in the book was brought in at the end with a bigger role that I didn’t expect. So that was a good surprise! There was one part at the end where out-loud I seriously said “Nooo, don’t do that!! Stop him!!” (If you have already read this book than you might have a pretty good idea what part I am talking about. Last para. pg 426 – 1st half of page # 427)
One thing that really irritated me in this book was that the chapters were way to long than what they should have been! There was so many spots where there that could have been started into a new chapter but instead it was carried on. Which dragged the story on so much!
Overall this book was a good read and at times had me on the edge of me seat but overall it was just too long for me as well as, too boring! The only time the really good action kicked in was not until like that last 50 pager of the book. Again this is my opinion and my opinion only. So please if you are interested in reading this book then please don’t let this review get in the way of picking it up and reading it but, you have BEEN WARNED!
